hydrangeas.

i'm a gardener...
and i grow hydrangeas in my garden...
but mine are pink, blue and purple.

this year...
i want some white ones...
so i think i'll visit my nursery this weekend.

one thing about cutting hydrangeas...
you should put the flowers into hot water immediately after cutting.
i usually rinse the but stems...
and then add hot water to the vase also...
and my flowers will last for DAYS!!!

when i brought these flowers into the office on wednesday...
one of my co-workers mentioned that she'd bought some...
that had wilted within a couple of hours of purchasing them.
i told her about the hot water method...
and then showed her how fresh they still looked on thursday.

and...
as you can see...
they're still beautiful!

gumballs.

i'd already planned out my photo for today...
but when i was driving home yesterday...
i thought of gumballs...
and knew my photo was changing.

i exited the freeway to go by a candy shop i know of...
but they weren't there. :(
my next stop...
target!!!

i was happier than a kid in a candy store when i saw them.

i opened them last night...
and chewed a couple of pieces.
sugary sweet and as hard as i remember.

in this photo...
i have a martini glass full of gumballs...
with some scattered on my ipad below...
on the photo soft box app...
and i'm shooting with a very shallow dof...
and a 3x filter.

flute.

full of fingerprints flute...
with a bit of tarnishing...
and a touch of HDR...
but its still operational.

i got this flute forty-five years ago...
when i was in fifth grade.
wow!!!

i was in band class for a few years...
then i moved to japan.
we had no band classes there...
so i gave lessons to a ten year old...
that had just moved over there.

when i returned to the 'states'...
i enrolled in band classes again...
and thoroughly enjoyed my time in marching band...
and participating in parades.

fast-forward...
the flute passes down to my daughter...
and she enrolls in band classes.

she and i were talking a couple of weeks ago...
and i discovered that her group of friends...
that she's had since elementary school...
were bandmates of hers.

my niece loves music.
perhaps she'll take an interest in it when she's older...
and it will play those beautifully, melodic sounds once more.

to match the one egg that i cracked.
