today...
i stopped at a local ale house...
and picked up some of their beer.

i usually only go there around the holidays...
but i happened to be downtown today...
and was parked right across the street from them.

i'm not really a beer drinker...
but i had a wine glass full...
and it tasted pretty good.

this is mrchazman's beer glass.
it appears darker than it is...
because the 'crawler' is behind it.

today...
i met a coworker in davis for breakfast...
and this telephone booth was near the cafe.

when i first pulled onto the street...
i saw it...
and knew i wanted to photograph it.

get me outta here...

today...
i had a meeting in our san francisco office...
which is only about 32 miles from my home.

i left home at 7:30.
i arrived at the office at 9:20.

i had my coffee and breakfast for the ride...
and also a new gospel cd i mixed last night.

the meeting ended a little before 3:00...
and i prepared to leave the city.

by 3:15 or so i was headed out of the parking garage...
at 3:45 i called my office...
and told my admin he'd probably be off work and home before i made it across the bridge.
btw...
we close at 5:00.

at 4:55 i called him again...
to tell him i'd finally made it ONTO the bridge...
and unfortunately i watched a tow truck and four motorcycle cops roll by me...
lights flashing.
there was an accident on the bridge

i finally arrived home at 6:10...
exhausted.
i approved timecards...
so i wouldn't have to wake up super early (corporate's on the east coast)...
had a nice long shower...
and am about to go to bed...
at 8:00 pm.

tomorrow night...
the old bay bridge will close...
as they ready the new bridge to open on tuesday morning.
i'm thankful i won't have to go to the city then!

great sky...

when we were driving home today...
i happened to glance up...
and noticed the sky.

as mrchazman pulled into the driveway...
i asked him to stop...
so that i could shoot this from the car.

yep...
i was a lazy photog today.
shooting on my cell from the back seat.

i love this app!!!
and really should play around with it more...
to see what all the options will do.

picking tomatoes...

we have the little girl this weekend...
and she helped pick tomatoes this evening.

she did pretty well...
and only picked one green tomato...
and only smashed one of the red ones that she'd picked.

i don't think she's ever tasted a tomato...
except in a sauce ...
on some pasta.

just a few short months ago...
she was trying to learn how to walk.

now...
she walks...
runs...
spins...
squats...
as if she's been doing it forever.

opening day...

at the habit...
in vallejo, ca.

i saw the place being renovated a while back...
and today checked online to see if it was open.

i saw that it was...
but didn't realize today was opening day.

when i arrived...
i saw at least 15 cars in the drive-thru...
so i decided to park and go inside.

the line was OUT THE DOOR...
and this photo was from my position...
near the back of the line.

it didn't take too long to get to the front of the line...
and i have to hand it to them for being well-staffed...
to deal with all the hungry after-work crowd.

i chatted with one of the workers there while i waited...
and she told me this was one of the best (profitable) openings they've had.

our burgers were tasty...
and reasonably priced.

green tomato...

my 'early' tomato harvest is almost over...
and my 'late' tomatoes are doing quite well.

the late tomatoes should begin to ripen in september...
and will continue thru october.

they're all rather large...
and we had to add in more stakes yesterday.

my early tomatoes were very sweet and tasty...
and i'm looking forward to seeing how these compare.

black rice...

this morning...
i was talking with someone on twitter about black rice...
and decided to make some for dinner.

i also baked some cod...
that i brushed with olive oil...
and then rolled in a cracker-crumb / berbere spice / lemon zest / garlic chive mixture...
topped w/lemon slices...
and baked in a 400º oven.

like i thought she was going to do...
she opened her mouth to show me.

i almost missed the shot...
because i was laughing so hard.

i know...
it was wrong to laugh...
but it was so unexpected.

i'll ask her 'what's in her hand'?

headed to napa...
to the movies...
to see lee daniels' the butler.

the traffic was pretty heavy...
and as i looked to my right...
i saw the beautiful hillside...
and those gorgeous clouds.

i quickly unlocked my phone...
opened my 645pro app...
and took this photo.

the movie?
it was excellent!
the soundtrack sounded good too!

afterwards...
we went for a drink at a downtown restaurant...
before stopping off for takeout...
and returning home.

for tenant appreciation.

the theme...
cirque du diablo.

the decorations were beautiful:
the red & gold drapes...
the circus tent.
trapeze balloons.

the food was tasty:
chicken apple sausage corn dogs...
bbq pulled pork sliders...
shrimp & veggie skewers...
corn on the cob...
green salad...
twice baked potatoes...
bags of popcorn...
& candy apples.

unfortunately...
i set it in the sun...
on the windowsill to take this photo...
and the caramel started softening...
and the little candies started sliding.

the fall semester began.

and yes...
i'm taking another photography class.

if i had to guess...
i'd say the average age of my classmates is 19...
and it's only that high because about 5 of us are over 30.

this should be an interesting class.

for dinner tonight...
i baked salmon...
simmered black rice...
and made a tossed salad.

the salad ingredients...
minus the lettuce...
came from my garden.

i love a colorful salad...
and to the green romaine lettuce...
i added red onion slices...
green padron pepper cubes...
& brown, orange, yellow and red tomatoes...
as well as some homemade bread cubes...
and a homemade vinaigrette.

sunflower...

this is one of my mother's sunflowers.
what amazes me about it is...
it's one that i gave her...
and while mine has only one flower...
and the entire plant is maybe a foot tall...
my mother's is over four feet tall...
and has at least a dozen flowers on it.

there are different kinds of sunflowers...
and i'll be sure to get some of these seeds...
for next year!

i took the basket into the office...
shared some with my co-workers...

national night out...

our neighborhood watch group...
came out this evening.

the turnout was relatively small...
considering the number of homes in our area...
but the camaraderie was felt.

a representative from our city council was present...
as well as a local police lieutenant.,,
and a few of our firemen.

we chatted...
shared a bite to eat...
and rolled thru the streets in the fire engine...
big kids and small...
lights and sirens blaring.

all in all...
a fun evening.

so i've go to do my research and get ready for next year.

this is a volunteer from last year.

my mother also had volunteer sunflowers this year...
except hers was five feet tall...
and had eight flowers on the one stem.
