trick or treat...

for halloween...
mj was snow white.

it was interesting watching her.
when we first we out...
she wasn't comfortable being in the dark...
and wanted her grandmother to go with us.

she said trick or treat at the first house...
but at the other houses...
she would say 'heyyyyyy'...
as they opened the door...
and 'thank you'...
as they let her select treat after treat.

she came home with her pumpkin half full of treats.
that she doesn't eat...
or should i say...
had never eaten...
before today.

unfortunately...
she did learn the word 'candy' tonight.

today was my first day back in the office...
after being on pto for two weeks.

on my drive home...
i admired the scenery...
pulled off the highway...
and headed to the pier.

i faced the setting sun...
and waited for a seagull to fly into the frame.

my photography class went to the waterfront...
to practice night photography.

i shot dusk scenes...
and some neon...
and long exposure car lights...
and then...
i got out my flash...
turned my camera on bulb...
and started playing.

accident...

we're almost home...
and there's an accident.

this is a very dangerous offramp!

two lanes exiting from eastbound 80...
merge with two lanes heading west on 37...
merge with two lanes exiting from westbound 80.

that's six lanes of traffic...
going 65+ mph...
all converging on two exit lanes...
and two lanes of hwy 37...
and of course they're all criss-crossing each other.

really?

tonight...
we ventured over to brooklyn bowl.

we had a nice dinner...
and drinks...
and heard one of three live bands...
but we left before questlove's set.

oh...
and because we were visiting...
and leaving tomorrow...
the doorman waived the cover charge.

on our walk...
we passed a windowsill garden.

it doesn't take much to garden...
and this person realizes that.

they are growing...
cayenne peppers...
rosemary...
sage...
thyme...
basil...

and visited dia: beacon.

this evening...
we went to an event at bergdorf goodman...
to celebrate the publication...
of howard slatkin's book...
fifth avenue style...
published by the vendome press.

my daughter works for the publisher...
and it was great being in town for the event.

fyi...
howard slatkin is also the name behind the bath & body works candles...
and torie & howard organic hard candy.

patrick mcmullan was the event photographer...
and yes...
i photographed him.

but because i still needed to get my steps in...
we went walking this afternoon.

we went to the brooklyn botanic garden.

i'd been there before...
but places like these have great photo ops...
and on tuesday...
there's no fee to get in.

i still haven't read the book.
i marked it as 'to read' on my goodreads today.

we visited the 9/11 memorial on sunday.
the last time i was here...
it had just opened...
and i wasn't able to get a pass to get in.

unfortunately...
the museum isn't open yet.
so i guess i'll see that next visit.

i'm glad some of the peppers are getting bigger now.

i've put them into a pie tin...
and will dry them in a slow oven (170º).

i rarely light the tapers or plain candlesticks.

i frantically searched the house for flashlights.

when the lights came back on...
i counted 20 decorative candles...
in the room with me...

picked early tuesday morning...
and unfortunately...
i broke a bit of the branch.

this plant has been very productive this year...
and currently has over 50 new flowers...
which will hopefully mature.
