on the day that i saw the carnival near my office...
another one set up near my home.

i wanted to capture photos of the lights...
so i went there tonight.

unfortunately...
it was raining.

so...
i set up the tripod...
grabbed my umbrella...
got the camera and remote...
and fired off a few quicks shots...
and returned home.

as i was driving home from the office...
i saw a mini carnival!!!

i've seen it before...
tucked right below the freeway...
but it was usually late at night...
and i was on my way home.

today...
i exited the freeway at the next off ramp...
whipped a u-turn at the light...
and headed back for photos.

now...
i want night photos.

i know...
never satisfied!

discovery kingdom.
aka marine world.

when i was coming home from work today...
i saw the roller coaster and detoured for photos.

i've only been on one roller coaster in my life...
and that was a wooden one in san diego...
that had technical difficulties the weekend after i rode it.
need i say more!

the roller coasters at discovery kingdom...
are relatively new...
but this one got 'stuck' last year...
and people were dangling upside down for a few hours.

no thanks.
i'll pass.

it was rather chilly outside...
so i wasn't out back long.

i like this with the green leaves...
and unopened bulbs in the frame.

i added a screen blend mode in ps to brighten the overall photo...
and then added the oil paint filter.

happy birthday to my grandmother.
she would have been 96.

are a multi-purpose tool in my kitchen.

i've used them to...
prop open a pot & let a bit of steam escape...
test a cake for doneness...
and then to hold a multi-layered cake together.

i've also used them to spear an olive for my martini...
to pick up tidbits on an hors d'oeuvres tray...
as well as the purpose for which they were designed.

today...
they're a decorative photo prop.

it grows like a weed.
from one tiny plant that we bought years ago...
there are now four large bushes.

i've also grown english and spanish lavender...
but i haven't had as much success with them.

if you are in a moving vehicle...
as we were...
you pull your car to the side of the road...
put the vehicle in park...
and remain there until the end of the national anthem.

as i listened to the star spangled banner...
i thought it fitting to see the plane trails in the distance.

the weather today...

when i checked my weather app...
at around 5:30 a.m.
it (incorrectly) showed that it was raining.

this was one of the few times i saw blue skies this morning.
on the way back from church...
it was just the opposite...
and clouds were scarce.

in preparation for my niece's first birthday...
i've been inspired to learn more about my camera.

in december...
i bought myself the nikon d7000...
and it has quite a few functions...
that i hadn't tried out yet.

today...
i filmed my first video...
shot bracketed photos for the first time...
and used the scene mode for the first time.

the entire street was thick with fog when i first looked out.
but..
by the time i got outside...
it had risen above street level.

i was pleased to see it still hovering over the freeway...
near the mountains.
